About

Peter Kajlinger is one of the most sought after baritones in Scandinavia. Known for his outstanding stage presence as well as vocal technique at the operatic stage he is asked for by many of the directors of today.

Born on 2nd December 1964 in Stockholm Kajlinger´s road to opera was quite straightforward. Growing up in a home with musicians, a career in the arts was not something strange. However his acting was something he developed without encouragement from the family. He was accepted as a student at the College of Opera in Stockholm 1989. During his studies he had the opportunity to sing roles such as Moralés (Carmen) and Leporello (Don Giovanni) at the Royal Opera in Stockholm. Upon graduation 1992 he sang the role of Falstaff by Salieri at The Court Theatre of Drottningholm, Sweden

Further on he performed with Leporello and Figaro which brought him to the attention of Pamela Rosenberg, then casting director of Staatsoper Stuttgart. Rosenberg noticed the talent of Kajlinger and invited him to join the company.

As a member of Staatsoper Stuttgart he sang more than twenty different roles directed by Kusej, Schaaf, Berghaus, Neuenfels, Breth, Wieler  among others. He was asked to sing the title role in Le Nozze di Figaro at GöteborgsOperan in Sweden 2000.

He became a freelance singer in 2003 and started off with a recital as well as Masetto (Don Giovanni), Michelotto (Die Gezeichneten), Antonio (Le Nozze di Figaro) at Staatsoper Stuttgart.

In 2006 Feldkircher Musikfestival commissioned the opera “The secret Agent” by Simon Wills, where Kajlinger created the main character, Verloc.

In the year of 2007 he portrayed Amonasro (Aida) and the following year he performed at Oper der Stadt Bonn in Tjajkovskij´s Pique Dame as Major Domo.  Seeking development and knowledge he contacted Mr. Sherrill Milnes which led to his debut as Scarpia (Tosca) 2008, and Rigoletto 2009 at VärmlandsOperan, Sweden. In the summer of 2010 he sang Marcello (La Bohème) at Opera på Skäret in Sweden. In the year of 2012 he portrayed Dr. Treves in The Elephant Man at Norrlandsoperan. 2013 he made his first Tonio in I Pagliacci by Leoncavallo. His Bartolo (The barber of Seville) garnered praise in media 2014-2015 as well as Pizarro (Fidelio) in the triology directed by Tobias Kratzer. During the season of 2017-2018 he impersonated the Captain (Greek Passion) and Frank (Die Fledermaus) at Wermland Opera. In 2021 he sang the Emperor at Norrlandsoperan.

"Peter Kajlinger has one of his generation's most beautiful baritone voices."

"In The Barber is for example the old man's sick Doctor Bartolo so sympathetically portrayed by Peter Kajlinger (worth an own review) (...)"
